What To Not Feed Your Pet Turtle

If you've decided a pet turtle is the right pet for you then it is important to understand that the proper care and nutrition must be taken at all times in order to ensure a happy and healthy pet.

Most turtles are omnivorous, meaning that they will gladly eat both animal and plant matter.

But this does not mean they can eat anything they want, nor anything you have available in your fridge to feed them.

What To Avoid When Feeding Turtles

Dairy Foods
Turtles lack the necessary enzymes to properly digest a common part of dairy. Lactose. This means that you should never give your pet turtle any cheese, milk, butter, or any other product that may contain lactose.

Fried Foods
Avoid giving your pet turtle any kind of fried or oily foods of any kind. They are not the healthiest choice for humans and they are even worse for turtles.

Avoid giving them french fries, donutsonion rings, etc.

Sugary Foods
Sugary foods such as sugar, candy, chocolate, Gummy Bears, Hershey Kisses, etc should not be given to your turtle.
Not only are sugary foods unhealthy for turtles, they can sometimes pose a choking hazard since turtles will try to swallow them whole.
